But for us as carpet sellers, it’s something we always pay attention to. It's not just a number — it tells you a lot about the quality, durability, and craftsmanship of the rug. A closer look at knot density in handmade rugs. What is Knot Density? Knot density means how many knots are tied per square inch (KPSI) or per square decimeter (KPD). In simple words — the more knots, the finer and more detailed the rug. A higher knot count usually means the carpet took more time and effort to make. For example, a rug with 200 knots per square inch can have very intricate patterns and smooth textures. But that doesn’t mean lower knot count rugs are bad — they just have a different feel and use.
